Santolan High School Wins Tub Wrap Contest
The Tub Wrap Contest is an event of Magnolia Ice Cream where they hone and promote the artistic talents of students. Participating schools submit three to five contest entries, which are judged in accordance with the specific theme given. The champion design is then printed on MIC’s ice cream tubs.
Looking Back
In 2008, the first Tub Wrap Contest’s theme was “Universal Christmas,” and the champion entry by Paul Rana of the Philippine Women’s University was printed on the tubs of Christmas Limited Edition flavors Coffee Vienna and Waffle Cheesecake.
The summer of 2009 was another season for the Tub Wrap Contest, and the theme, “Life is a Beach,” was best displayed by the entry of Carl Corilla of La Salle Greenhills. His design was printed on the Summer Limited Edition flavors Chocolate Crème Brûlèe and Fruit Fuzion.
Alexa Remalante of the University of Sto. Tomas and Brent Marc Sabas of the Univeristy of the Philippines were 2nd and 3rd placers respectively in the 2008 contest, while Ryan Jay Kabigting of St. Scholastica’s College placed 2nd in the 2009 contest. MIC looked for a way to showcase their beautiful designs despite not being 1st prize winners, and printing them on MIC gift certificates became the means to display their works of art.
Looking Forward to Summer 2010
This year, MIC once again engaged the talents of students from different schools in another Tub Wrap Contest, and on February 10, 2010, the 4th Tub Wrap Contest Awarding Summer Edition was held at the San Miguel Corporation Head Office.
Participating schools were Assumption College San Lorenzo, Colegio San Agustin Makati, Eusebio High School, La Salle Greenhills, Rizal High School, and Santolan High School.
San Miguel officers judged the contest entries based on this summer’s theme, “unity amidst crisis and taking care of nature.” Five entries were chosen as the top five designs, and Jomar Tadeja from Santolan High School won 1st place.

Aside from winning a cash prize worth P20,000, his contest entry will be emblazoned on the MIC Summer Limited Edition Tub 2010.
MIC GM Mayo Alcon delivered the closing remarks, sharing that the activity aims to recognize and cultivate the artistic talents of High School and College students, “The Tub Wrap Contest is a medium of expression, and MIC wants to reach out to students who have something deep and profound to share.”
